Thanksgiving Countdown: Cakes and Cookies

OK, I won’t be lining up today for seconds. I am more of a savory than a sweet kind-a-guy. But, these are memorable reliable tried-n-true recipes I created for you. All are pretty easy, and can be made in advance to lighten the last minute cooking load. I’ll be making the Lemon Ricotta Cake a few days before serving, because it actually tastes better a day or two old.

Note to Self:  those bearing sweets always get invited back.

S'mores Please

August Good Stuff Pick.

The traditional s'more was born out of a Girl Scout campfire in the late 1920's. To create a s'more the process consisted of toasting a marshmallow on a whittled down long stick over an open fire and while it's still hot, removing the warm-n-oozing marshmallow by sandwiching between two graham crackers with a couple pieces of chocolate. Then pressed like a sandwich. Voilà!, that's a dessert treat that can be made by kids of all ages.

However, today I'm sharing a different kind of S'mores - without the fire - a gelato that is clearly not made by kids, but by serious chefs. Ciao Bella is billed as America's best gelato, born in NYC's Little Italy.

Guild the lilly and try a scoop of Ciao Bella on top of your campfire S'more. No wonder kids have shortened the phrase "some-more" with the excitement of wanting S'more, please!

Available nationwide.

Everyone's Favorite Dessert

Spring and Easter Time holiday is here, ready or not. Do you want to bake a dessert that is fool proof and enjoyed by all? Sure you do, luckily I have the solution - my New York Style Sour Cream Cheesecake Recipe. This recipe has been adapted from a recipe that requires 90 pounds of cream cheese, yielding some thirty 10-inch cheesecakes. So, I can say that it has been well tested by thousands; plus more importantly, my own family. I hope you and your family enjoy it just as much!

P.S. Feel free to improvise and use any of your favorite kind of cake or cookie crumbs for the bottom of the cheese cake and put on your own signature.

A Good Port In Any Storm

Seems fitting on a cold snowy evening - serve a cordial of blueberry port with a hot chocolate dessert.

From our friends at Duck Walk Vineyards.

Crafted from wild Maine blueberries, this Port displays the classically intense fruit flavors of the berry. Sweet yet hearty, it displays ripe, firm tannins and pairs remarkably well with foods with equally firm tannins, such as dark chocolate, or root vegetable and duck-based reduction sauces.
